Can I see it before I buy?

Yes. The Interactive Sample is the working product, filled in for a fictional family — click into any section and nothing is saved. There is also a free 5-Minute Family Readiness Check you can print, as a simple starting point for the information your family would need first. Your email address is used only for occasional Life on Track updates.

Is this only for emergencies, or will I actually use it?

It does two jobs, and most weeks you only need the first. Most of the time you open it yourself — the renewal you meant to check, the alarm code and the dog’s routine for a sitter, the school form that wants the same details every August. Then there is the day someone else opens it and finds who to call, what matters medically, and where things are kept. Recorded once, useful both ways.

What do I see when I open Life on Track?

Home opens on one calm three-step path — Start, Protect, Share — and highlights only the step it suggests next. Start is adding the people, instructions and document locations you already know. Protect is creating a Backup Copy and keeping it somewhere safe. Share is preparing a Trusted Person Packet, and whether you ever share it is always your choice. Everything else sits in three groups in the sidebar — People & Contacts, Home & Property, and Money & Records — plus your plans for emergencies, hospital and disaster. Go at your own pace — you can stop and return whenever you are ready.

Which should I choose — the Toolkit or the Bundle?

The Family Readiness Toolkit ($149) covers emergency readiness and household organization, and is the whole product for most families. The Complete Family Bundle ($219) is the Toolkit plus all three add-ons: Additional Households & Caregivers, Final Wishes & Legacy Planning, and Digital Estate. Bought separately those come to $266, so the Bundle saves $47. You can start with the Toolkit and add later.

Why not just use a binder, a shared document, or a password manager?

You can, and some families do. The difficulty is keeping it current and handing it over. A password manager stores secrets and a shared document stores files — neither one tells your family who to call, where to go, what to find, and what to do first. Life on Track gives you a guided structure, emergency-first summaries, printable sheets, and a read-only handoff for someone you trust.

Is there a subscription, and can I get a refund?

No subscription — every Life on Track purchase is one-time. The Toolkit is $149 once, the Bundle $219 once, and your license never expires. I’ve never done anything like this — where do I start?

Most families haven’t. Guided Setup walks you through it one small step at a time, and the first twenty minutes gets your family a printed Emergency Sheet. Start with who to call and your medical basics, then add the rest whenever you like. Your file saves as you go and there is no deadline — a partly filled file is already more than your family had yesterday.

What is in the Family Readiness Toolkit?

Your private family file, in three clear groups: People & Contacts (household & family, trusted helpers, school & activities, professionals), Home & Property (homes, access & safety, utilities, vehicles, pets, maintenance) and Money & Records (accounts, bills, insurance, documents, dates). On top of those sit your Emergency Info, hospital and disaster plans, the Trusted Person Plan, Guided Setup, Print & Share, and Review & Backup. One-time $149.

How does the trusted-person handoff work?

You choose someone — a spouse, an adult child, a sibling, a close friend — and Life on Track prepares a calm, read-only view for them. They do not need Life on Track themselves — you hand them a file and it opens in any browser, with nothing to install and no account to create. Can I use this for a parent or someone I care for?

Yes — that is what Additional Households & Caregivers ($49, or included in the Bundle) is for. It gives you up to four more households alongside your own: their care team, medications, routine, documents and emergency contacts, each a complete separate file that never mixes with yours. Switching between them is one tap, which is what makes managing a parent’s household from a distance workable. Caring for more than four? A second license keeps another branch of the family in its own file.

What do Final Wishes & Legacy Planning and Digital Estate cover?

Final Wishes & Legacy Planning ($39) records what you would want if you could not say so yourself, where the signed papers are kept, and private letters — written or recorded as a voice message — kept in your file until you choose to share them. Digital Estate ($29) maps where your accounts, devices and subscriptions live and how to recover them. Neither is a legal document, and neither is a password manager: they record where things are kept, not the passwords themselves.

Can I buy an add-on on its own?

No — an add-on is not a separate product. Every add-on works inside the Family Readiness Toolkit ($149), so you need the Toolkit first. From there you can add Additional Households & Caregivers ($49), Final Wishes & Legacy Planning ($39) or Digital Estate ($29) whenever you are ready — or get the Toolkit and all three together in the Complete Family Bundle ($219) and save $47.

Can I give Life on Track as a gift?

Yes, and it makes a thoughtful one — for a parent, a grown child, or a friend starting a new chapter. Buy any plan in your own name and the setup email with the license key arrives in your inbox. Where is my information stored? Do I need an account?

On your own device, inside the copy of Life on Track you install — and no, there is no account. Your household details, medical notes, documents, care instructions and final wishes are not stored on our servers, so we cannot see them and there is no username or password for us to lose. You control your own backup, and where it is kept is your choice.

What should I put in it — and what should I leave out?

Record where things are kept, not the secrets themselves. Account and insurance numbers are optional — enter the last four rather than the full number, and it stays masked on screen. Never store passwords or PINs in Life on Track; note where your password manager is instead. Printouts and shared copies are designed to omit passwords, PINs and full account numbers — read anything through before you hand it to someone.

Is this a legal or medical service?

No. Life on Track helps you organize information and point to the documents that matter. It does not provide legal, medical, financial, tax or estate-planning advice, and it is not a will, trust, power of attorney or advance directive. For those decisions, speak with a qualified professional.

What happens if Life on Track ever went away?

It keeps working, and your file stays yours. Life on Track runs on your device, not on our servers, so nothing about the version you purchased depends on us being here. Your backups stay readable, your printouts stay printed, and your license never expires.

What if I clear my browser history, or my file looks empty?

Clearing browsing data is a normal thing to do, and installing Life on Track is what protects you here. First, open it from its installed icon rather than a browser tab — the Home Screen or Dock icon on an Apple device, the app icon on Windows or Android. On Windows or Android, clearing data can make it forget which folder you chose; it will ask you to pick the same folder again and your information comes back. If it asks for your license key, enter the key from your setup email. Do not start re-typing anything — work through the recovery steps or email us first.

Do I have to install it, and why?

Yes, and it takes about a minute. Life on Track installs straight from your browser — no App Store, no account: Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac, Chrome or Edge on Windows, Chrome on Android. Afterwards it opens from an icon like any other app. Installing comes first because an ordinary browser tab is a fragile place to keep something this important; installed, your file has a proper home on your device. The Download & Setup page shows exactly how.

What do I get right after I buy?

A setup email with your license key and step-by-step instructions. Install Life on Track, enter the key once on each device, and you are in. Each purchase gets its own key — if you buy the Toolkit now and an add-on later, enter both keys and they combine automatically, with nothing lost and no reinstalling. If the email has not arrived within a few minutes, check your spam folder or email us.

How do updates work, and will I ever pay again?

We let you know by email when an update is ready; you then open Settings → Updates and choose Check for Updates. Nothing is pushed into your file automatically, and updates never give us access to it. Download a fresh backup first — it takes seconds. Fixes and small improvements to the version you bought are always free. Every few years a major version may be released; upgrading is optional, may be paid, and your information comes with you.

How many devices can I use it on, and does it sync?

Your license activates Life on Track on up to 3 devices — for example your computer, phone and tablet — never expires, and you can deactivate a device yourself anytime. Devices do not sync, and that is deliberate: syncing would mean your household information travelling over the internet, and it never does. Each device keeps its own copy; to bring another one up to date, make a Backup Copy on one and restore it on the other.

Why does a backup matter, and how do I make one?

Because your file lives only on your device, a backup is the copy that covers a lost or damaged device or a move to a new one — and it is the only way your file can be recovered, since we never hold it. Open Review & Backup in the top toolbar and choose Create New Backup, then keep the file somewhere you trust: your own cloud drive, a USB drive, or with someone close to you. The Backup Confidence Check in the same menu confirms your plan would really work.

How do I move to a new phone or computer?

On your current device, open Review & Backup and choose Create New Backup. Move that file across, install Life on Track on the new device first, then open it and choose Restore From Backup. Your file moves with you, not through our servers. One habit keeps it simple: pick one device as your main editing device, make changes there, and restore a fresh backup on the others before editing.

Can I print or export my information?

Yes. Print & Share gives you printable emergency sheets, handoff summaries, doctor visit notes, household summaries and trusted-person copies, formatted to read clearly on paper — for the fridge, a go-bag, or someone’s hand. A good habit is to print the one-page Emergency Sheet rather than your whole file: it is the most useful on paper and keeps the rest private. Store any printout the way you would any important document.
