Questions & answers

Everything people ask before and after they start: pricing, what’s included, how caregiving works, privacy, refunds, and how to move your file between devices.

Before you buy

Can I see the product before I buy?

Yes. Visit the Interactive Sample page to click through a sample with fictional Parker Family data. The sample is fully clickable and does not save information.

Which option should I choose?

The Family Readiness Toolkit ($129) is best if you want emergency readiness and household organization. The Complete Family Bundle ($199) is best if you also need a caregiving workspace for a parent or loved one, final wishes & legacy planning, or digital estate guidance. The bundle includes everything and saves $47 versus buying each add-on separately.

What is the Free 5-Minute Family Readiness Check?

A simple printable sheet to help you capture the first information your family may need in an urgent moment. It is not the full Life on Track product, but it gives you a practical place to start.

What happens when I enter my email?

Your download appears right on the page — it is not emailed to you. Your email address is used only for occasional Life on Track updates. Do not submit private household, medical, legal, or financial details through the form. You can unsubscribe anytime.

Why wouldn’t I just use Google Docs or a binder?

You can use a binder or a document, but most families do not keep it updated or easy to hand off. Life on Track gives you a guided structure, emergency-first summaries, backup reminders, printable views, and a trusted-person handoff — all in one private file.

I’ve never done anything like this — is this for me?

Yes — most families haven’t. Life on Track walks you through it one small step at a time, and the first 20 minutes gets your family a printed Emergency Sheet. You do not have to finish everything, and the file is useful even partly finished. You just have to start.

What’s included

What is included in the Family Readiness Toolkit?

The Toolkit ($129, one-time) includes your private family readiness file: People & Family, Health Notes, Children & School, Household Details, Documents, Finances & Accounts, Dates & Renewals, Emergency Info, Backup & Restore, and Print & Export. Also includes the Trusted Person Plan — a read-only handoff view for someone you designate.

What about the middle of the night at the hospital, when I can’t be reached?

That moment is exactly what Life on Track prepares for. The printed Emergency Sheet on the fridge and the Trusted Person Handoff put the answers in your family’s hands before they’re needed — no login to remember, no account to recover, no signal required. Paper on the fridge and a prepared person beat a website password at 2am.

How does the trusted-person handoff work?

You choose a trusted person — a spouse, an adult child, a sibling, a close friend — and Life on Track prepares a calm, read-only view called “If You’re Reading This”: who to call first, medical must-knows, where the important papers live, the house and the pets, and the people to tell. No logins, no searching — they open one page and know exactly what to do first. Nothing is shared until you choose to share it, and the person you hand it to does not need to buy anything. You can see the exact view in the Interactive Sample, and see how the handoff works step by step.

What is included in the Complete Family Bundle?

Everything in the Family Readiness Toolkit plus all three add-ons: Additional Households & Caregiving, Final Wishes & Legacy Planning, and the Digital Estate Planner. That’s $246 in individual product value for $199.

Can I buy add-ons separately?

Yes. Start with the Toolkit ($129) and add Additional Households & Caregiving ($49), Final Wishes & Legacy Planning ($39), or the Digital Estate Planner ($29) when you are ready. Or get everything at once with the Bundle ($199) and save $47.

How do add-ons work?

If you buy an add-on or the Bundle separately from your first purchase, your setup email will include a new license key just for that purchase. Enter it inside Life on Track alongside your original key — both combine automatically and nothing is lost, no reinstalling required.

What do I get right after purchase?

A setup email with your license key and step-by-step instructions. Enter the key inside Life on Track to unlock your product. If you do not see the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder or email us.

Can I give Life on Track as a gift?

Yes — and it makes a thoughtful one for a parent, a grown child, or a friend starting a new chapter. Purchase any plan and the setup email with the license key arrives at your email address. Forward it to the recipient, tuck the key inside a card, or sit down and set it up together. Their file lives on their device and stays completely private — even from you, unless they choose to share it. And if they ever need help, support is there for them just the same. There’s a free printable gift card with a place for your note and their key. Not sure what to write? Something simple works: “I got this for us — not because anything is wrong, but because I never want you scrambling on a hard day.”

What is the return policy?

Every purchase includes a 14-day money-back guarantee. If Life on Track isn't right for your family — for any reason — email us within 14 days for a full refund. And if something simply isn't working, contact support anytime; most issues are sorted out quickly. See full refund policy →

Caregiving & add-ons

Can I use this for a parent or loved one who needs care?

Yes. Additional Households & Caregiving ($49 add-on, or included in the Bundle) is a dedicated workspace for the household you help manage: care team, medications, documents, routines, emergency contacts, and caregiver handoff notes. Many families use it because they are carrying that information in their heads and need to give it a home.

What if I am helping manage a parent’s household from a distance?

That is exactly what Additional Households & Caregiving is for. It gives you a separate household workspace alongside your own — kept fully separate inside your one private file — with care team, medications, routines, documents, and handoff notes. So when a sibling, neighbor, or home aide needs to step in, they do not have to call you first.

How many households can I manage?

Your license covers one Life on Track app with one private file. Additional Households & Caregiving adds up to 4 additional households alongside your own — five household profiles in one app, enough for nearly every family. Caring for more than that? A second license keeps another branch of the family in its own separate private file.

Can I use this for final wishes?

Yes. Final Wishes & Legacy Planning ($39 add-on, or included in the Bundle) lets you record service preferences, document locations, veteran burial benefits, and guidance for the people you trust. It is not a legal document — it gives your family a calm starting point.

Can I leave letters for the people I love?

Yes. Inside Final Wishes & Legacy Planning you can write private letters — to a spouse, each of your children, a grandchild, anyone. They are written in your own words and kept sealed in your file until you choose to share them. Life on Track never reads them, and they never leave your device.

Is Digital Estate a password manager?

No. Digital Estate helps you record where important accounts, devices, subscriptions, and access instructions are kept — not the passwords themselves. Do not store passwords directly in Life on Track.

Privacy & your file

Where is my information stored?

Your file is saved locally in your browser on your device. Life on Track does not store your household details, health notes, documents, care instructions, or final wishes on our servers. You control your own backup.

Do I need an account?

No. Life on Track does not require an account to build or use your private household file. Open it in your browser or add it to your home screen and it works — no username or password to manage.

Is there a monthly subscription?

No. Every Life on Track file and bundle is a one-time purchase — no recurring fees. The Family Readiness Toolkit is $129 once. The Complete Family Bundle is $199 once.

Is Life on Track an app?

It is a private browser-based household command center. It feels app-like and you can add it to your home screen on any device — but it does not require an account and does not store your private file on our servers.

What happens if Life on Track ever went away?

Your app keeps working and your file stays yours. Life on Track runs on your device, not our servers — so nothing about your purchased version depends on us being here. Your backups remain readable, your printouts remain printable, and your license does not expire.

Is this a legal or medical service?

No. Life on Track helps you organize information. It does not provide legal, medical, financial, tax, or estate-planning advice. For those decisions, speak with a qualified professional.

Is this safe for sensitive information?

Life on Track is private by design, but you should still be thoughtful. Do not store passwords directly. Use it to record where things are, who to call, and where trusted access instructions are kept.

Does it store my account or policy numbers?

Only if you choose to add them — and never in full when you share. Account and insurance policy numbers are optional: enter the full number or just the last 4, and it stays masked on screen. Anything you print or hand off shows only the last 4 digits. For the most sensitive numbers — Social Security, driver’s license, passport — Life on Track records only where the document is kept, never the number itself.

Can’t I just use a password manager or a shared document?

They answer different questions. A password manager stores secrets; a shared document stores files. Neither tells your family who to call, where to go, what to find, and what to do first. Life on Track deliberately does not want your passwords — it records where things are kept, then guides your family through the moment. Many families use it happily alongside a password manager.

Setup & license key

Already purchased and stuck? The Support page has step-by-step help for license keys, setup emails, backups, and moving to a new device.

What is a license key?

Your license key unlocks the Life on Track file or add-ons you purchased. Each purchase gets its own key by email — if you buy more than one product separately (for example the Toolkit plus an add-on), enter each key inside Life on Track and they combine automatically.

Backup, devices & using your file

How many devices can I use Life on Track on?

Your license activates Life on Track on up to 3 devices — for example your computer, phone, and tablet. It never expires, and you can deactivate a device yourself anytime from inside the app, so replacing an old device is simple. Devices do not synchronize automatically — your information stays private on each device, and you move it when you choose using a backup file.

Does Life on Track sync my information between devices?

No — and that is by design. Life on Track never sends your private file anywhere, so nothing syncs automatically between devices. When you want your information on another device, download your encrypted backup from Backup & Restore and move it yourself — on your own USB drive or through your own cloud-storage account. You stay in control of every copy.

Why is creating a backup important?

Because your private file is stored locally in your browser, Life on Track cannot recover it if your device is lost, browser data is cleared, or you switch devices without a backup. Create a backup early and store it somewhere you control — a USB drive, your own cloud storage, or with someone you trust.

Can Life on Track recover my file if I lose my device?

No. Your file is stored only on your device — that is the privacy promise. If the device is lost and you have no backup, the file cannot be recovered. The Backup & Restore section makes it easy to create a copy you keep and control.

Can I use it on a new device?

Yes. On your current device, open Backup & Restore in Settings and download your backup file. Move that file to the new device, then open Life on Track there and choose Restore My Backup Copy. Your file moves with you, not through our servers. A simple habit keeps things clear: choose one device as your main editing device, make your changes there, and restore a fresh backup on your other devices before editing so you are always working from your latest copy.

Can I print my information?

Yes. Life on Track includes printable emergency sheets, handoff summaries, doctor visit notes, household summaries, and trusted-person copies. Print what you need, when you need it.

What if I do not finish everything?

That is completely fine. Start with the most important details — who to call, health notes, where key documents are — and come back to fill in the rest whenever you are ready. Good enough is better than scattered.

How do updates work?

When an update is ready, we let you know by email. You then update from inside Life on Track — open Settings → Updates & Backup and choose Check for Updates. Updates are never pushed into your file automatically, because your information is private and lives only on your device; nothing changes until you choose it. Before updating, we strongly encourage downloading a fresh backup — it takes seconds in Backup & Restore. Updates never give Life on Track access to your private file.

Will there be new versions? Do I have to pay again?

Bug fixes and small improvements to the version you purchased are always free. Every few years a new major version may be released with substantial new features. Upgrading is optional and may be a paid upgrade — each new version will clearly list what’s new, so you can decide whether it’s right for your family. If you do upgrade, your information comes with you: restore your existing backup into the new version and pick up right where you left off.
